“CONSTANT REALITIES – THE WAY“ for violin/voice and video

Biliana Voutchkova, violin/voice; Boriana Pandova, video. With text and video footage by both artists. An abstract solo developing from visible concepts through text, musical, non-physical dialogue occurring somewhere in the open space between Berlin and Sofia.

Biliana Voutchkova is a thoroughly engaged composer-performer/interpreter whose work combines regular performances of major solo violin/ensemble works, new works by contemporary composers often written for her, and improvisation. Her research as a creative improviser spans the widest possible range of sound/music/movement and extends the sonic and technical capacities of her instrument evolving into the development of a highly individual musical language. Biliana lives in Berlin and appears at festivals and concert series worldwide. She works as a soloist and collaborates with the Splitter Orchestra, Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop, Ensemble Modern, Ensembles United Berlin, Mozaik, Zeitkratzer, LUX:NM and Sasha Waltz & Guests, among others. Recent/current projects include solo concerts at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, GAS, Mózg, Moving Music and Radar Festivals, Cafe Oto, the release of the solo album ”Modus of Raw” and ”As found” in trio, a concerts tour in the USA with Voutchkova/Thieke duo supported by the Goethe Institut, and performances for the festivals Klangwerkstatt, Documenta14, Wien Modern, Experimental Intermedia and Gent festival. Biliana received the Composition Stipend from the Berliner Senate in 2017 and grands from INM Berlin and the Trust for Mutual Understanding in New York in 2016.

Thieke/Bromanders improviserade ljudlandskap växer organiskt fram med hjälp av tystnad, psykoakustiska och akustiska detaljer. Skälvande interferenser, brusljud, övertoner och protomelodier där det är inte alltid lätt att särskilja de två instrumenten från varandra – vilket i sin tur pekar på vår egen perception, kognition och hur vi tolkar oss själva och världen. Allt blandas i ett stramt utryck där ett intensivt lyssnande aldrig släpper taget om musiken.
Duon Thieke/Bromander bildades 2016 i Berlin och efter regelbundna träffar gjorde de sin första konsert våren 2017. Michael Thieke (från Berlin/Rom är känd från grupper som The International Nothing och Splitter Orchestra) och Vilhelm Bromander (the mute, Vilhelm Bromanders Initiativ och CBVB) fattade tycke för varandras och ville arbeta vidare med detta inspirerande och spännande projekt.
