Baba Stiltz and Okay Kaya play their new EP, BLURB

This collaboration was initially conceived when Kaya stopped by Baba’s Stockholm studio back in 2022 to propose a potential remix. The pair found that they had plenty in common; from musical tastes to their shared Scandinavian-American upbringing ,and they were soon presenting each other with new track ideas, whilst re-working their existing songs as collaborative pieces.

Produced in Stockholm alongside Daniel Fagerström (Viagra Boys), the recording sessions between Baba and Kaya favoured a documentarian approach over heavy-handed production techniques, with both artists performing in the room together and using over-dubbing sparingly.

This is the latest addition to a vast discography from Baba Stiltz, who made his name crafting ambient electronic music on labels such as XL and Studio Barnhus, and contributing production to the work of other artists including Bullion. Baba opened the door to his new sound via 2023’s Paid Testimony; an LP which coloured his kaleidoscopic compositions with slacker-poetry and warped Americana.

Earlier this year, Okay Kaya  shared her fourth LP, Oh My God – that’s so me; marking another stride forward in a run of releases which has seen the songwriter’s status evolve from left-of-centre underground buzz, to a globally acclaimed purveyor of “adept songcraft, enveloping melodies, and mood-conjuring” [Pitchfork].
