Johan Arrias – soprano saxophone

Elsa Bergman – double bass

Johan Arrias and Elsa Bergman have played together as a duo for about two years. They work with improvisation in the free jazz tradition. What fascinate both of them is among other things how the sound of a soprano saxophone and a double bass when played with alternative techniques can get so close to each other that they almost become each other’s sounding reflection. At the  same time, they create an often reckless music playing individual lines. But still there is an undeniable contemplative side in the middle of it all.

Johan Arrias is a saxophone and clarinet player active in the field of improvised, experimental and contemporary music. He works with deconstructing and fragmenting the traditional ways of playing his instrument with extended techniques and preparation, regarding sound as an autonomous matter. When composing music he moves freely from traditional to graphic notation and concepts. Occasionally he plays in alternative pop settings, mainly within projects of Sing a Song Fighter. https://auscultofonogram.bandcamp.com/

Elsa Bergman is a double bass player and composer in improvised music and free jazz based in Stockholm. Since 2017 she has been running Bergman Inspelningar for releasing her own music of different projects. Her most recent release is the album Playon Crayon which experiments with graphical scores and has received wide international acclaim. https://elsabergman.bandcamp.com/album/a
